Goals for Huck Finn

[Contributed by Sam #6]

Just a quick lil something before I get the recap from Chi Inv done... Anybody who reads this, and is a current Gnome, toss up a comment about your goals for the next two weeks, and what you would like to accomplish before we play at Huck Finn. If you are not a current Gnome, feel free to comment at your own discretion.

Another aside, if you live in the Chicago Area, there is a Combine Tryout on May 15th that all Gnomes should attend, if only for the experience. Mark your calendars.

  1. I would like to really focus on my throws in the wind and get as precise and controlled as I can. Also work on my break throws and fakes.

  2. i want to focus on moving the disc as soon as i get it and just continuous movement for the offense in general.

  3. i would like to cut down on turnovers. the more efficient we can be as a team, the more effective we can be

  4. Since I can only make one and a half practices a week, I'm really looking for self-improvement, especially concerning speed and endurance. I'd also like to work on hucks and break throws.

Also, as usual, my goal for each tournament is no drops, no throwaways, and at least a layout d per game. Not all those are 100% feasible, but at least they drive me to always give as much as I can.

  5. I'm glad you guys are doing this - especially "Anonymous"...

    Rob,
I used to dream about layout blocks and it got me really fired up on D but it also did 2 other things:
    1. Made me trail my guy (in order to bait a throw I could lay out through)
    2. Eventually, I broke my elbow on a layout D while guarding a guy that never should have been open in the first place.

So my point is this: While lay out Ds are great and they have their time and place, think about making it your goal to cover your man so well that he never gets thrown to. The feeling you get from the brief moment that you make eye contact with a thrower and he looks off your guy is a lot more satisfying than any layout D, in my opinion. Also, just think about what it would be like if all 7 men on the field had this mindset simultaneously.

And how scary it would be if 22 of them did...

  6. at huck finn i'd like to see the b team do well. we've just come together as a team and i feel as if chi invite was a warm-up for us. we have the capability to be a decent b team, we just need to put the work into it.
personally i would like to work on my hucks and throws into the wind. i'm a newer handler and try as much as possible to work on handler movement while i'm playing during a tourney or at practice.
good luck to the A team.
and B team, we can do this. Just believe in yourselves.
